Must Watch Tv & Web Series

Hey Merfolks!

I'm back, with pop-culture of the past and present. I can't wait to share my favourite shows and movies with you. For the next 6 months you'll hear from me every once a month.

Today I'm recommending the best shows out there (that I have watched till date). Fun, drama, comedy, romance, suspence, sci-fi, a little bit of everything. Arranged chronologically, here are my favourite must watch tv & web series :

Freaks & Geeks (1999)

The show follows gifted high schooler Lindsay Weir, who befriends a gang of slacker 'freaks', and her younger brother Sam, as he & his geek friends navigate high school.

WE. NEED. MORE. SHOWS. LIKE. THIS.

Nowadays teenage drama series have so much sex in it. Shows are so intense and unrealistic. That's all fiction and fun to watch, but once in a while we need less drama and more relatability. Freaks and Geeks was so laidback and real. Being a teenager is tough, and so is highschool. Watching Freaks & Geeks will make you feel so much better.

I was so mad to find out that the show got cancelled after one season becuase the producers thought it wasn't cool enough. Also you definietly will recognise some today's well known actors like Mrashall from HIMYM.

Zindagi Gulzar Hai (2012)

Kashaf, a young woman raised by a single mother, faces a lot of class and gender bias while growing up. However, her life turns around when she meets Zaroon in college.

I LOVE THIS SHOW. Kashaf is strong and fierce but also sweet and caring. Till some extent even in 2022, Kashaf is every girls' life story. Even after facing so many obstacles and hurdles, she doesn't give up on life.

Zaroon is played by Fawad Khan. I mean, do I need to say anything else. Zindagi Gulzar Hai is a sweet, simple and relatable series. It is nothing fancy. It just portrays life of simple people, their struggles and the little things. Just go watch the show.

Permanent Roommates (2014)

The series revolves around a young couple, Tanya and Mikesh, who after being in a long distance relationship for three years, face the prospect of marriage.

Permanent Roommates marked India's first web series to be released. In March 2020, a 20-episode audio-book series titled Permanent Roommates: He Said, She Said (Audible Suno) was released, which bridges the story between the two seasons focusing on the lives of Mikesh and Tanya when they moved in together.

It is a sweet and funny series. You will fall in love with the sensible Tanya and quirky Mikesh. Even through tough situations they find each other.

Zoo (2015)

A thriller based on James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge's best-selling 2012 novel of the same name. Violent animal attacks upon humans are occurring all over the world. Jackson Oz, an American zoologist & his Kenyan friend Abraham Kenyatta, a safari guide, as well as Jamie Campbell, a Los Angeles reporter, Mitch Morgan, a quirky veterinary pathologist and a French intelligence agent Chloe Tousignant, all seek to investigate the mysterious pandemic as attacks become more coordinated and ferocious.

The book and show go in different direction. Both are equally good. Let me tell you this there is a lot going on. But the first season of the show is mind-blowing. If you are into suspence and thrillers, Zoo is a good watch.

Limitless (2015)

When Brian Finch consumes NZT-48, a miracle pill, his brain power increases manifold. He utilises his new-found intelligence to help FBI agent Rebecca Harris solve her cases.

If you want some backstory or just adore Bradley Cooper you can first watch the 2011 movie of the same name. The movie is based on the 2001 novel The Dark Fields by Alan Glynn (I haven't read it yet).

Limitless is a Sci-fi, comedy drama, thriller. The story is so new and intriguing. A miracle pill unlocks your brain's full potential. What would you do, a totally ordinary person, if you had NZT-48? Watch Limitless to find out how Brian's life turns out.

Lucifer (2016)

After abandoning his throne in hell and retiring to Los Angeles, Lucifer indulges in his favorite things (women, wine and song), until a murder takes place outside of his upscale nightclub. For the first time in billions of years, the murder awakens something unfamiliar in his soul that is eerily similar to compassion and sympathy. He is faced with another surprise when he meets an intriguing homicide detective Chloe Decker, who doesn't fall for charms to reveal their deepest desires.

Lucifer is an urban fantasy, mystery, occult detective fiction, police procedural, comedy drama series. If you love solving crimes, Lucifer's is a fun watch. Can the devil turn good? Watch Lucifer to find out.

Fleabag (2016)

A dry-witted woman, known only as Fleabag, has no filter as she navigates life and love in London while trying to cope with tragedy. The angry, grief-riddled woman tries to heal while rejecting anyone who tries to help her, but Fleabag continues to keep up her bravado through it all. Comic actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge stars as the titular character on the series, which is based on Waller-Bridge's 2013 one-woman show of the same name.

If you haven't watched this show already, what are you doing? Fleabag is a dark British comedy, where the protagonist often breaks the 4th wall. It's funny, witty, raw with emotions, chaotic, fun and everything in between. You learn who is fleabag and why she is so, but you also see a side of what coping with grief and navigating life can look like.

Tripling (2016)

It traces the story of three siblings – Chandan, Chanchal and Chitvan, who together start a hilarious journey to find themselves and their relations.

Tripling is a fun comedy drama series of three siblings, of how one road-trip (or two counting the second season), can bring you closer. Make sure to watch this show with your siblings.

The Good Place (2016)

Eleanor, a deceased saleswoman who lived a morally corrupt life, finds herself in a heaven-like afterlife in a case of mistaken identity and tries to hide her past in order to stay there.

The Good Place is a philosophical fiction, fantasy, dystopia, comedy show. This is the series that shows what being a human is. You have good days and bad days. You make mistakes, you f**k up, but you also work towards being better. The Good Place has a quite interesting angle on the afterlife, its a fun must watch.

Little Things (2016)

The story revolves around Kavya Kulkarni (Mithila Palkar) and Dhruv Vats (Dhruv Sehgal), a couple in a live-in relationship in Mumbai. The series progresses with everyday life explored through conversation between the couple.

You will love Momo and Biryani Monster, I promise. The show is about the little things, the little pleasures in life. As the series progresses it deals with work, life and relationships.

Money Heist (2017)

The series traces two long-prepared heists led by the Professor (Álvaro Morte), one on the Royal Mint of Spain, and one on the Bank of Spain, told from the perspective of one of the robbers, Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó). The narrative is told in a real-time-like fashion and relies on flashbacks, time-jumps, hidden character motivations, and an unreliable narrator for complexity.

I mean come on, it is one of Netflix's most watched series, do I speak anymore. You will laugh and cry, and love and hate, be excited and nervous. You will feel every emotion like on a rollercoaster.

The Morning Show (2019)

An unapologetically candid drama that looks at the modern workplace through the lens of the people who help wake America up, pulling back the curtain on early morning TV.

Think of the movie "Bombshell" but as a web series. There is so much drama that you will enjoy. It stars Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell. Season 1 was a blast. And season 2 was amazing as well. Can't wait for season 3.

Upload (2020)

In 2033, humans can "upload" themselves into a virtual afterlife of their choosing. When computer programmer Nathan Brown dies prematurely, he is uploaded to the very expensive Lakeview, but then finds himself under the thumb of his possessive, still-living girlfriend Ingrid. As Nathan adjusts to the pros and cons of digital heaven, he bonds with Nora, his living customer service rep. Nora struggles with the pressures of her job, her dying father who does not want to be uploaded, and her growing feelings for Nathan while slowly coming to believe that Nathan was murdered.

Mismatched (2020)

Mismatched is a rom-com based on Sandhya Menon's best selling book ‘When Dimple Met Rishi’. Dimple Ahuja (Prajakta Koli) wants to be a tech wizard and Rishi Singh Shekhawat (Rohit Saraf) is a young guy who believes in traditional way of dating : meeting in person, being drunk on love, and has come to Aravalli Institute to find his ‘Future Wife’. Dimple is driven and Rishi's bewitched, and wants to tie the knot with her.

Qubool Hai 2.0 (2021)

This sequel of the popular television show Qubool Hai follows the love story of Asad, an Indian, and Zoya, a Pakistani as their lives get entangled and they struggle with their dilemmas and loyalties.

It is so good to see Surbhi Jyoti and Karan Singh Grover back together on-screen. They have such good chemistry.
