A Makeup Artist's Skincare Routine

Welcome to the Skincare Series.

A series featuring my friend Shreya, an aspiring makeup artist & skincare enthusiast. She is here to share some of her knowledge on skincare, and help you navigate the right path to caring for your skin.

Everybody's skin is different, so should every skincare routine be. Copying somebody else's routine is a big no-no, as some products may work for them but not for you. The common skin types are normal, sensitive, dry, oily, and combination. The best way to find what works for you is by doing your research. Research the products, the ingredients used in it, as well as the ingredients best for your skin type. Find out which will be good for your skin type. Listen to your skin, observe how it reacts to the products you use. If in doubt ask the experts, the dermatologists.

To give you an idea about skincare routines, Shreya will tell you about the products she uses in her skincare routine. Shreya has oily skin, so she uses products which control excess oils and hydrates the skin.

  • So Shreya what is your skincare routine?

" I don't have a fixed schedule, my skincare routine depends on my mood.

Though whenever I do it religiously, I give my skin a break from all the products, at least once a week.

Also I try to apply a face pack once a week.

In the morning, I don't really do much. I just wash my face, use some toner & moisturize. Sometimes if I'm getting dark circles or my under eyes feels dry, I apply eye cream. When I'm going out, I use SPF.

At night, I wash my face, use a toner, moisturize, apply eye cream, & lip balm.

During the day, if my skin feels oily, I just splash some water or will wash my face with face wash.

When I notice my skin is getting dull, I use a scrub, once or twice a week. And if I want my skin to be more smooth then I'll use an exfoliating serum.

I don't really have a fixed routine. I use products according to my skin's needs.

Tip, don't use products with chemicals together, if the ingredients don't complement. You can get side effects. Give it a week's break. Try to balance everything."

Bonus Pro Tip : Don't try new products all together. Try them one at a time, with a break of a couple of days or weeks. Because if you get a bad reaction, you won't know what caused it.

Bottom line, listen to you skin, it knows how it feels. You just got to find the right products, with the right ingredients, that will work for you.
